Heavy Gear Blitz.

Having a love for 15mm sci-fi wargaming and playing Gruntz, i'm allways on the look out for games
of the scale. I have been casting my eyes over Dream pod 9 and the very nice Gear minis for some time now. And when Richard Baker put an old starter box under my nose i snapped it up. It should of been £78.00 but i got it for £49.00 BARGIN....
I say old sterter because in this starter The northern army starter, you get a GP squad General purpose squad, and a Fire support squad. A locked and loaded rule book, Black and white. Four yellow dice and a dream pod 9 tape measure. The new starter has a strike squad in place of the GP squad and the small rule book plus the field manual.
The scale is 1:44 they say 12 to 15mm. The rule book is the revised 1.1 version.
On to the Gears, now they come in the box in smaller squad box's each with its own little tray. In the try is all the stuff needed to build your Gear. Torso legs head arms with lots of way to pose the Gears.
The head comes on the weapon sprue, with the v shape engine. you get a vibroblade for each Gear.
And with each different squad you get more different weapons. From light auto cannons to Heavy gatling laser. each gera has missle pods small missile pods for small gears to heavy rocket pods for larger gears. The rule book has all the squads listed with all weapon load outs you can take for it to be a legal fighting force.
Allso in the squad box you get a data card for Each gear. All the weapons that gear can have are on the card along with its in game stats. one thing that is missing and should'nt be are the Heavy Gear Blitz dice .A very important part of the game. They help keep track of what mode the Gear is in, walking Still, combat speed ect. All this make a big difference to shooting bad guys or being shot at.
you can buy them but i think you should get one for each gear. Gears come with damage box's you have sturdy, light damage, heavy damage and crittical. with the dice you get coulored counters to put next to your Gear for this.
Onto the minis and i must say they are sweet well i like them. They do need abit of cleaning up before you get the glue out but thats no problem.
This is the Norths standard combat gear the Hunter.
This is the jaguar a better version of the Hunter faster stronger and better tec systems.
In this pic the Jaguar is with a recon ans demo drone. With meadium auto cannon.
Hunter with bazooka.
And the big Grizzly .
I'm cery happy to be starting Heavy Gear Blitz and i'm looking forward to my first game. And on the plus side all the minis can be played in Gruntz BONUS.... cheers Pancake.....

  1. I think a Grizzly inserted its fat ass where your first Hunter and Jaguar pic were going mate :-D

Good unboxing! I'm not sure they could put blitz dice in there without charging the earth though. That's another £18 at retail for two squads worth plus counters. I may pick some up later but they're a luxury rather than a necessity for a beginner, especially with the counter PDFs available on DP9's website.

Got two Jagers assembled so far from my South starter. It's a similar setup except that the fire support squad has one less model - I'm guessing because the three Spitting Cobras take up most of the tray with their weapon loadouts! They're big Gears and are loaded down with every weapon you could possibly think of... I'm putting mine on round bases rather than the hexes they come with, never been a big fan of hex bases and it's easy enough to mark the round ones up with sixty degree marks for turning. Got some 30mm non-standard size chamfered edge bases coming from Hasslefree for the Cobras as they're a bit big to fit on 25mm ones, the Jagers are fine though. Looking forwards to our first game :-)

The same guy has a bunch more stock in ;-) I'm trying really hard not to add a Strike or Recon squad to my Southers, I know I'll fail though...

  2. Cheers rich on the blitz dice i have made my own. Normal white dice with dots painted out. I've done green yellow orange and red so when box's go down you just change the dice and dont need a chip. The dice have all speeds painted on them.
